Spain runs eight consulates general in the United States plus the Embassy's Consular Section in Washington, and thirty-four honorary consulates. The split is published state by state; only California goes by county, between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Start with what the official websites themselves get wrong. The Boston consulate has moved to 10 St. James Avenue, and the Embassy, Chicago and Boston's own list still publish the old address. Houston is in Suite 750 or Suite 660 depending on whom you ask. And Inyo County appears in both the Los Angeles and the San Francisco lists.
On nationality, two dates change everything: the Democratic Memory Law closed on 22 October 2025, and the Golden Visa by property purchase ended on 3 April 2025. Still open, with no deadline: the option for children of Spaniards born in Spain.
To visit, a US citizen needs no visa for up to 90 days. To stay, the most searched visas are the non-lucrative and the digital nomad, applied for at the consulate of your district; Schengen and student visas go through BLS.
A Spanish passport costs 35 dollars by USPS money order and takes about three weeks; slots open daily and appointments are free. How each office books is under appointments.
Faded markers are honorary consulates.

The honorary consulates
There are also thirty-four honorary consulates and vice consulates, in private premises and nearly always by appointment. They help with assistance, passports for children under 12 and certified copies; they do not issue adult passports, visas or powers of attorney. Little Rock and Nashville are vacant.
